Re:      Election of Student Members for the ME Dept. Student Fee Appropriations Committee
The student fee appropriations committee for the Mechanical Engineering Department will include five Mechanical Engineering students who will be elected to the committee.  These members will be composed of two lower division students and three upper division students.  Lower division students must have completed between 5-14 ME units.  Upper division students must have completed more than 15 ME units.  All students enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering major are eligible to be nominated to the committee. The nomination process will consist of having prospective candidates fill out applications.  The applications, along with information about the election will be e-mailed by April 24, 2002 to all Mechanical Engineering students.  Flyers will also be posted in the hallways and faculty will be encouraged to announce the availability of applications to their classes. Applications will also be available via the Internet and in the Mechanical Engineering Department office. The completed application must be submitted at the Mechanical Engineering Department office no later than 5 p.m. on Friday May 3, 2002.  The application will ask the candidate to state his/her qualifications for committee participation.  Each candidate’s statement will be available on the Internet and will be posted outside the Dept. office for students to view.  An information session will be held on May 9, 2002 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Courtyard of Bldg 13 for candidates to speak about their qualifications for committee membership.

The election will be held on May 9, 2002 following the information session.  A voting booth will be set up in the Bldg 13 Courtyard from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Only Mechanical Engineering students will be allowed to vote.  Paper copies of each candidate’s statement of qualifications will be available for students to review at the voting booth.  Ballots will also be accepted from 2-5 p.m. in the Mechanical Engineering Department office on May 9th and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 10th.  The ballot will separate candidates into lower and upper division students.  The two candidates from the lower division and three candidates from the upper division who receive the most votes will be elected to the fee appropriations committee.  If there are fewer than two lower division candidates running for committee positions, these positions will be occupied by upper division students.
